Stop Waiting For The Scale To Say You're Enough
Choose to love yourself now, and use fitness as a way of expressing that love not earning it.
When I started my weight loss journey, I didn't start it from a place of love. I started it from a place of hate.
I hated my body. I hated the way I looked. And that hate had a favorite hobby: comparing myself to every woman who had the curvaceous figure I thought I was supposed to have. I'd scroll, I'd stare, I'd wish and then I'd come back to my own reflection and hate it even more than before.
I built an entire fantasy around one idea:
"If I lose weight and get that figure, I'll finally be happy."
The Goalpost That Never Stops Moving
Here's the part that no one tells you about motivation rooted in self-hate: it works, technically. It got me moving. It got me tracking, restricting, showing up. I made real progress on paper.
But it was never enough.
Every time I hit a goal, I quietly moved it. Lost the weight I said I wanted? Suddenly the waist needed to be smaller. Toned up? Suddenly the curves weren't curvy enough. I kept "achieving," and I kept feeling exactly as unhappy as the day I started because I wasn't actually chasing health. I was chasing a finish line that I kept redrawing so I'd never have to cross it.
No matter how much my body changed, my mind refused to change with it. And that's when I understood something that reshaped everything for me:
No bodyweight. No waist size. No "curvaceous figure." Nothing on the outside was ever going to fix what I was feeling on the inside.
The Realization That Changed Everything
If I wanted to be happy, I had to stop outsourcing that happiness to a future version of my body. I had to choose to be happy today accepting myself exactly as I am, complete, unfinished goals and all.
Self-love isn't a reward you unlock at a certain number. It's a decision you make right now, in the body you currently have.
And here's the good news I wish someone had told me on day one: you don't have to weigh a certain number or have a "supermodel figure" to love yourself. Self-acceptance isn't effortless it takes real, ongoing work but it also isn't the impossible mountain diet culture makes it out to be.
What I learned, and what I now build into every part of how I coach women, is simple:
Weight loss is temporary. Mindset is permanent.
You can lose the weight and still hate what you see in the mirror if the mindset underneath never shifts. But shift the mindset first, and everything you do for your body afterward the training, the nutrition, the hormone balance, the recovery becomes an act of care instead of a punishment.
Motivation From Love Lasts. Motivation From Hate Burns Out.
This is the difference that actually determines whether your results last:
Hate-driven motivation says "I'll love myself once I look different." It's fast, brutal, and unsustainable and it usually ends in burnout, yo-yo weight, or a body that changed while your self-worth never did.
Love-driven motivation says "I already deserve to feel good, so I'm going to take care of this body." It's steadier, kinder, and ironically far more consistent, because you're not white-knuckling your way to a finish line you keep redrawing.
Fitness was never supposed to be the price of admission for self-worth. It's supposed to be an expression of it one more way you show up for yourself, alongside rest, nutrition, and a mindset that isn't constantly at war with your reflection.
Choose Love First. Let Fitness Follow.
So here's what I'd tell the version of me who started this journey hating her body, and what I tell every woman I coach today:
You don't need to hit a number to be worthy of love, respect, or care. You are allowed to want to change your body and fully accept it exactly as it is right now those two things aren't contradictions, they're the actual formula for sustainable transformation.
Choose to love yourself now. Let fitness be how you say it not how you prove it.
If this resonated with you, I'd love to hear it drop your thoughts or your own experience in the comments below.
